Home-made olives fly trap

Useful for those who make organic farming, monitoring, but also catching adult fly oil.

The trap should be constructed with plastic bottles, followed by the procedure:

Make four holes in the 0.5 cm plastic bottle with tin welder :

Make a hole on the cap to fit a thread and hang the bottle:

Wire inserted into the plug hole:

As a bait I have prepared different types from the first day I noticed that the best for catching is 1 kg of honey diluted with 5 liters of vinegar, filling the bottles with about half a liter, following some photos of the catches obtained after only one night:

Bottle hanging close to the olives:

First catches:

Considering that the oil fly cycle is conditioned by climatic factors, temperature and humidity.
In principle we can say that:

The most dangerous period runs from mid-August to early September, and then continues until October.

Re: Home-made olives fly trap

I have tried the traps for the oleaginous fly I have to say that two pictures are working

In the first as a bait I used honey and vinegar and you may notice that I have caught several species of fly fly insects of the olives and calabron

trappola per mosca olearia con esca miele 1 kg con 5 litri di aceto

While in the second I used 30 grams of urea per liter of water and I must say that the catches are more selective because it only captured the oleaginous fly

Re: Home-made olives fly trap

After how many days did you catch the flies and horns with the trap you posted?

Re: Home-made olives fly trap

Works better with urea as it has a volatile ammonia nitrogenous substance attracting flies in search of protein supplements for their diet.

Re: Home-made olives fly trap

Here in the area of Molise, 25 km from the coast, the olives fly infestations alternate, last year you did not see this year, you find yourself everywhere

And for a couple of years I have noticed this alternation of the oil fly, one year and the next you see no one, what depends I do not know

Re: Home-made olives fly trap

In the video you see the trap full of flies, but that bait you used to catch so many flies?
